A Self-care Day For The Elite

Having a self-care day once a week or MINIMUM once every fortnight is crucial. As you stop taking care of yourself, things in your life can start to fall apart very quickly.

You may think you are too busy to take care of yourself; that is what I told myself ten months ago. A friend once told me, "you can't pour from an empty cup." I choose to see my self-care as a way for me to refill my cup so I can go on to help fill other cups.


Self-care is not selfish; it changes your perspective and slows your mind down. Pieces of the puzzle to your life start making sense once you nourish yourself self-care is, self-care is so life-changing that I sometimes have two self-care days a week. Crazy right? It can be difficult to dedicate a whole day to self-care, but if you want to reap the rewards, I have total faith, you can introduce it into your weekly routine. You could try self-care days specifically on the weekend or do half a self-care day on one day and spread it out over the week. A self-care day spread over two or even three days is better than not having one!


OR maybe you don't think it is selfish, but you think you could spend the day doing something far more productive than taking care of yourself. You're WRONG; I hate to be the bearer of bad news. If you are running around like a headless chicken and waiting for the burnout to catch up to you, so you're forced to take care of yourself, why not work it into your routine? If self-care is inevitable which, it definitely is, work it into your schedule, on your terms and do it how YOU want to.


I have to warn you if you have not tried this before a self-care day is like hitting a big red reset button on your life. What is nice is that you can plan it in advance and take some of the "I have a million things to do" stress away and give you something to look forward to.

A whole self-care day will also give you the freedom to explore what type of self-care works for you. We are all different, so you may have to switch up your routine to suit you best.

I am going to give you an insight into my self-care day, some of you may love it, or you may want to pick and choose and add in your own things, which is excellent! The self-care day is all about you, so do what works for you best.


A Self-care Day for the Elite


1. Light your favourite candle

Our sense of smell is sensitive, so I decide to start off my day with lighting a candle of my preference. I light it as soon as I wake up, if you can't find anything in your room ever try and find a lighter and put it next to your bed before you go to sleep. That way, there is no excuse to skip that step or stress yourself out looking for a lighter.



2. Get some tea into your system

If you can try and skip the coffee today and sip on tea, it will allow you to relax better throughout the day. I have a no-caffeine diet, so I use decaffeinated tea bags, but regular tea has less caffeine than coffee.
